CHARITY AND VOLUNTEER WORK
Time is critical. The police need information. A picture! Some recently worn clothes for the tracker dogs to get a scent.
A fingerprint just in case the child crosses from one jurisdiction to another. Does your child have any special mannerisms or language
characteristics to help police identify him? Question after question to assist in the speedy recovery of the child. Sound far fetched?
Actually, every year in the U.S., thousands of children become lost. A few are victims of abduction.
Systems like "Amber Alert" are effective in helping recover lost and abducted children. But the authorities need vital information...
AND THEY NEED IT FAST! CLICK ON THE IMAGE ABOVE FOR MORE INFORMATION.
Hesperians are encouraged to sign up for training and to participate in registering children in their communities. HESPERIA HAS CHOSEN A NEW SPONSORED CHILD - 26 June 2008
Hesperia was alerted to the fact that two new children at the Illinois Masonic Children's
Home in LaGrange, Illinois were in need of sponsors. Christian, born in August 1992, was suggested by the home as a potential
sponsored child for Hesperia and was formally accepted in Lodge on this 26th day of June 2008.
We are also thrilled to announce as well that our previous sponsored child, Alma, has recently become a new mother. The
lodge voted unanimously on 10 July 2008 to donate funds towards her initial expenses. Congratulations and best wishes, Alma!
For over 120 years The Illinois Masonic Children's Homes (IMCH) has offered
long term residential care for children between the ages of 4 through 16 years.
We provide a safe and nurturing environment for children who are unable to
care for themselves due to various family or home conditions. Our Homes
provide children a myriad of growth enhancing opportunities which allow them
to reach their fullest potential. http://www.imchkids.org/history.htm
Please join us whenever possible in supporting our new charge, and wherever appropriate, sharing in both word and deed the light of Masonry.
Masons - Hesperians - Consider a visit, if possible, for the annual Christmas Party in December.
GADS HILL CENTER HAS BEEN CHOSEN AS A CHILD-CENTERED CHARITY FOR SPONSORSHIP BY HESPERIA.
On April 18, 1898, the State of Illinois issued a Not-for-Profit Charter to the Gads Hill Social Settlement. The mission of the Settlement stated:
The object shall be to improve the living conditions of the neighborhood and to assist and stimulate the people of the district through education,
helpful recreation, wholesome social intercourse, and neighborly cooperation thus, promoting temperance, happiness, mutual goodwill, higher ideals
and better American citizenship. The name was changed to Gads Hill Center in 1916.
Several Hesperians, most notably Bro. Gil Orejudos, periodically volunteer at Gads Hill. We have chosen to earmark funds for computer tutoring for children. HESPERIAN VOLUNTEERS AT VITAL BRIDGES PANTRY
By combining food and housing assistance, nutrition counseling, case management, and educational services,
Vital Bridges provides a life-line of wrap-around services that rebuilds and stabilizes the lives of those diabled by their HIV status.
Serving more than 2,400 people annually in the Chicagoland area, a corps of more than 400 volunteers and 34 trained staff operate out of six sites
to deliver immediate and long-term solutions.
Brothers Richard Elia.PM and Senior Warden Robert Harvey are among those Hesperians most devoted to this good cause in past years. NIGHT MINISTRIES - FOOD FOR THE HOMELESS
On two occasions during the winter of 2007-8, brethren joined the Night Ministries in both the Uptown and Lakeview neighborhoods in Chicago. In each case several dozen homeless, including a large number of homeless youth, were served sandwiches or hot soups provided by Bro. Renslow and Bro. Sakkos (10 gal were donated on both occasions by Artimis of Mt. Prospect). Hesperians plan to return to volunteer during the coming winter months. Hesperians have volunteered in past years as well and we hope to see newer Hesperians contribute to the tradition. ADDITIONAL CHARITIES THROUGH APPENDANT MASONIC BODIES AND OUR GRAND LODGE | .
