Charity and Volunteer Work

Illinois Child Identification Program

Time is critical. The police need information. A picture! Some recently worn clothes for the tracker dogs to get a scent. A fingerprint just in case the child crosses from one jurisdiction to another. Does your child have any special mannerisms or language characteristics to help police identify him? Question after question to assist in the speedy recovery of the child. Sound far fetched? Actually, every year in the U.S., thousands of children become lost. A few are victims of abduction.

Systems like "Amber Alert" are effective in helping recover lost and abducted children. But the authorities need vital information... AND THEY NEED IT FAST! CLICK ON THE IMAGE ABOVE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Hesperians are encouraged to sign up for training and to participate in registering children in their communities.

The Night Ministries

On several occasions over the past two winters, brethren joined the Night Ministries in both the Uptown and Lakeview neighborhoods in Chicago, serving sandwiches and hot soup to several dozen homeless, including a large number of homeless youth. Hesperians plan to return to volunteer during the coming winter months. Hesperians have volunteered in past years as well and we hope to see newer Hesperians contribute to the tradition.

Vital Bridges

By combining food and housing assistance, nutrition counseling, case management, and educational services, Vital Bridges provides a life-line of wrap-around services that rebuilds and stabilizes the lives of those disabled by their HIV status. Serving more than 2,400 men, women and children annually in the Chicagoland area, a corps of more than 400 volunteers and 34 trained staff operate out of six sites to deliver immediate and long-term solutions.
